Fire Safety in Construction

Construction management teams are required to review and revise the on-going fire safety management arrangements during their projects. Given the time that can be spent on keeping the documentation up to date and the lack of specific fire safety knowledge that those supporting the on site team have, Salvus has developed a full range of consultancy support packages to assist in the management of fire safety in construction.

Over the past 15 years Salvus has provided assistance on large and small, complex and unique, high rise and timber framed projects across the UK, from pre-planning to on site support we are here to ensure your project is  ‘fire safe’.


Assisting in the pre-planning of fire safety for a forthcoming project is an essential tool if the requirements of current legislation are to be met. We provide assistance to members of the design team, the Principal Designer and the Client. We can also provide support to those members who are part of the ‘bid team’ to enable them to ‘cost in’ fire safety arrangements, so that there are no nasty surprises during the project, that may have an impact of the profitability of the project.

Construction Phase

We provide support in completing essential documentation and records including, the Construction Phase Fire Plan, Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Log/recording systems and if required fire investigations.

We provide on site safety advice on fire compartmentation, means of escape, travel distances, fire points and any other key element that needs to comply with HSG 168, JCoP and other fire related industry standards. We provide inspection and monitoring services and can assist the team to run emergency evacuation exercises and formulate emergency plans.

Our aim is to provide solutions to fire safety related problems and we can assist the tam to reduce the risk of fire during their project.

With Clients, Principal Designers and those responsible for Managing the building post handover requiring Fire Risk Assessments and conformation of compliance increasing, Salvus Consulting has developed a series of ‘during construction surveys’ that build into a comprehensive ‘Handover Fire Risk Assessment’. This enable those responsible persons, employers and other to be sure that at the point of handover the fire risks have be managed effectively and that information on going requirements for maintenance and inspection have been identified. The Pre-handover Fire Risk Assessment is an essential element of todays CDM H&S file.
